Only a century ago women entered architecture schools and offices. They remained a minority in the profession for a long time. Today, the percentage of female to male architecture students reached parity.<\/p>\n

The next online discussion event of the series \u201eContext, Contrast, Continuity\u201d focuses on the role of the female architect in Modernism as well as today. How was a woman as architect perceived in the 1920s and 1930s? How is her role perceived today? \u00a0What triggered changes in self conception and recognition of a \u201cwoman as architect\u201d? Which factors remain today? How did the job profile change? What is the situation of a female architect today?<\/p>\n

Another relevant aspect for discussion is the question if female or feminine architecture exists? Should it exist? Is it in any way relevant who designs? Is the question of who decides what is being built of relevance?<\/p>\n

Female architect Margarete Sch\u00fctte-Lihotzky was one of the pioneers of European architects during Modernism. She is most famous for her design of the \u201cFrankfurter K\u00fcche\u201d even though she designed not only furniture but also houses and entire housing estates. Is it just coincidence that a woman designed the prototype for a modern, functional kitchen? Was the public perception reducing architect Sch\u00fctte-Lihotzky\u2019s achievements to only her famous kitchen? How did Sch\u00fctte-Lihotzky become part of those architects around Ernst May designing the Neues Frankfurt? How did other women during that time became successful architects, not only in Frankfurt but also in Tel Aviv and worldwide? How is the situation today?<\/p>\n

These questions will be discussed with female architects, cultural scientists, authors and curators as well as with the interested audience:<\/p>\n

Context, Contrast, Continuity \u2013 Heritage Conservation and Urban Development<\/strong><\/p>\n

The international online debate event series \u201cContext, Contrast, Continuity \u2013 Heritage Conservation and Urban Development\u201d focuses on how the needs of conservation as well as development requirements can be managed in the urban context. How can historically developed urban fabrics\/structures or singular buildings withstand the pressure for change from e.g. the real estate industry or housing demands? What can be done by the City\u2019s administration, politicians and society to protect its cultural heritage? How can existing buildings be integrated into the ongoing development and possibly be adapted to the new standards of living of our era?\u00a0 Researchers and professionals from Israel as well as Germany will address and discuss these and similar questions.<\/p>\n

The international online debate event series \u201cContext, Contrast, Continuity \u2013 Heritage Conservation and Urban Development\u201d is a cooperation of the Liebling Haus- White City Center (Tel Aviv Yafo), the Deutsches Architekturmuseum and the ernst-may-gesellschaft (Frankfurt am Main), as well as of ICOMOS and Do.Co.Mo.Mo of Germany and Israel.
