In the cities of the Global North\, innovative\, crazy and exciting projects emerged: Landscape architects\, artists\, activists and citizens wanted to provide children with the best place for play and try out a new approach to community and city at the same time. Starting with the pioneers of new playground concepts in the first half of the 20th century\, The Playground Project brings the wealth of this period to life — with images\, models\, plans\, books and numerous films\, but also with playground sculptures for climbing\, sliding and hiding. Everybody\, be they children\, parents\, playground planners\, teachers\, architects or students\, is welcome to discover the playground of yesterday and to consider those of tomorrow. We intend to celebrate it: with an exhibition devoted to the pilgrimage church in Neviges\, one of his most important designs. Commissioned by Franciscan monks and the second largest church in the Archdiocese of Cologne\, a concrete cathedral was built between 1963 and 1968. The folded roof is currently being refurbished with an innovative textile-reinforced concrete layer.In 2005 and 2006\, there were major exhibitions at the DAM of the work of Gottfried Böhm and his father Dominikus Böhm. This exhibition presents archive materials from when the pilgrimage church was built and associates them with a view of the future. An extensive series of lectures brings together Böhm’s three architect sons\, provides an insight into the technique of concrete restoration\, and also enables the film “Die Böhms – Architektur einer Familie” to be shown in Frankfurt again.For further events please visit: boehm100.de \nThe exhibition is supported by Ed. In 2020\, the prize will be awarded by the German Architecture Museum (DAM) for the fourth time – in close cooperation with JUNG as a cooperation partner – in a staggered jury procedure. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n ;\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n February 1st – Sep 20\, 2020\, 3rd floor\nDAM PREIS 2020 GOES THE NEW BUILDING OF THE JAMES-SIMON-Galerie by DAVID CHIPPERFIELD ARCHITECTS\, Berlin. \nThe focus of the exhibition of the 26 best buildings in and from Germany is the prize winning project. With the James-Simon-Galerie on the Museum Island\, Berlin\, the architects have achieved a delicate balancing act regarding the urban context. They were tasked with creating a grand entrance building for the Museum Island in one of the most prominent and sensitive locations in Berlin\, a building that had to respect the strong architectural ensemble around it\, comprising the Pergamon\, Neues and Altes Museums as well as the Kupfergraben\, an arm of the Spree river\, and the now largely completed reconstruction of the Berlin Palace. \nFor the DAM Preis for Architecture in Germany\, the museum has nominated 100 remarkable buildings or ensembles. The nominated buildings for the DAM Preis 2020 had to be completed between the end of 2017 and the spring of 2019. The jury of experts nominated 23 projects for the shortlist of the DAM Preis 2020. \nThe presentation for the DAM Preis 2020 shows current architecture from Germany and remarkable projects by German architectural firms in other countries: Housing construction continues to be one of the most pressing architectural tasks in the country. Many of these projects were also dedicated to urban densification and regeneration or the conversion of existing buildings. A striking number of projects in this year’s selection are located in rural areas\, such as the reconstruction of a farmstead in Franconia\, the extension of a castle in Thuringia\, and a number of detached houses. Medium-sized towns also provide interesting answers to urgent construction tasks\, such as the replacement of an office building with a mixed-use ensemble in Bielefeld. The exhibition also presents a number of hybrid buildings. These include Germany’s first-ever commercial building realised by a joint building venture and a residential building in Munich\, designed with and for refugees\, which also includes a cafe and communal space. \nWith the publication of Architekturführer Deutschland 2020 (Architectural Guide Germany) the shortlist\, finalists and the prize winning project are presented in a handy printed version. For more than 30 years\, the union-led building corporation was responsible for the planning and construction of more than 400\,000 apartments. Neue Heimat’s projects not only emerged from a unique interplay between economic interests and politics\, they were also an expression and reflection of West German social history. The scandalous collapse of the corporation in the early 1980s sent shockwaves through West Germany and marked the end of an era. Die Architektur mit ihren vielfältigen Fassaden aus gesteckten Betonfertigteilen war die Umsetzung eines Modellvorhabens\, das die Neue Heimat für den elementa72-Wettbewerb entworfen hatte. Dennoch war es die letzte Großwohnsiedlung\, die in Frankfurt gebaut wurde. \nDas Bild\, dass in der Allgemeinheit vom Leben in Siedlungen wie diesen gezeichnet wird\, ist oft voller negativer Zuschreibungen.  Aber wie lebt es sich am Ben-Gurion-Ring wirklich? Camera Obscura: Spielplätze fotografieren mit einer alten Fototechnik DESCRIPTION:Spielplätze fotografieren mit einer alten Fototechnik\nSpielplätze sind eine eigene Welt mit einer ungewöhnlichen Architektur. Im Gegensatz zu Häusern sind Spielgeräte offen. Sie gehen manchmal weit in den Raum hinein\, und wir können  in ihnen herumklettern\, hinein sehen und hindurch sehen. Mit selbstgebauten Weitwinkel Lochkameras – die besonders viel Raum aufnehmen – erforschen wir diese sonderbare Welt. Camera Obscura – das lateinische Wort für Lochkamera – bedeutet “Dunkle Kammer”. Schon die alten Griechen haben entdeckt\, dass ein auf dem Kopf stehendes Bild entsteht\, wenn Licht durch ein Loch in einen dunklen Raum fällt. \nDie Kameras werden selbstgebaut\, z.B. aus einem Schuhkarton. Statt mit einer Linse funktionieren sie mit einem Loch\, statt eines Filmes benutzen wir Schwarzweiß-Fotopapier\, das in unserem eigens dafür installierten Fotolabor entwickelt wird. Die so entstandenen Negative werden eingescannt und in Positive umgewandelt. Additional office buildings are being constructed on site to make room for all members of staff belonging to theCentral Office in Frankfurt. In 2018\, the Bundesbank commissioned the development of a design concept for the future campus through a Europewide tender process. The Bundesbank’s Executive Board chose the concept submitted by the Frankfurt-based architecture firm Ferdinand Heide forits skilful mixture of modernity\, functionality\, clarity and sustainability. In summer 2019\, an international architectural competition was launched based on this concept. The exhibition shows all design proposals submitted as part of the competition\, including the winning designs.
