SUMMARY:Opening of DFG-funded Research Training Group “Organizing Architectures”.
DESCRIPTION:We would like to cordially invite you to attend the opening of our new DFG-funded Research Training Group “Organizing Architectures”. \nThe Research Training Group focuses on research projects that examine the interplay between architectural production and social processes. How do built or planned structures shape (public) spaces and social dynamics? How do social processes and discourses materialize in architecture? And how does this affect society? This approach is based on a broad understanding of the concept of architecture\, which includes not only individual buildings\, but also urban ensembles and infrastructures. \nThe joint initiative of the Goethe University Frankfurt\, the Technical University of Darmstadt\, the University of Kassel\, and the Max Planck Institute for Legal History and Legal Theory Frankfurt offers an interdisciplinary approach and supports early career researchers with projects in the fields of architectural and social history\, sociology\, urban planning\, media studies\, legal history\, and human geography. \nWe would be delighted to welcome you on January 16! Please register via e-mail to wollweber@kunst.uni-frankfurt.de. \nProgram \nGreetings from the Executive Boards\nProf. Dr. Bernhard Brüne\, Vice President for Research\, Goethe University Frankfurt am Main\nProf. Dr.-Ing. SUMMARY:CCSA Lectures: Housing and...
DESCRIPTION:CENTER FOR CRITICAL STUDIES IN ARCHITECTURE LECTURE SERIES: HOUSING AND…\nThis lecture series brings the question of housing into prominence. Not only does it aim to look at the role of architects\, but also and mostly\, it explores the various ways in which contemporary housing practices have been built\, thematized\, debated and mediated. It moreover calls for a multi-lenses approach\, which covers from questions of intersectionality\, human rights and environment. \nIt invites a diverse group of guests to examine Housing in between architectural production\, the historical\, socio-political and territorial context\, the heritage and cultural making processes\, as well as the public space and the public debate. This event has been conceived by Carsten Ruhl and Daniela Ortiz dos Santos together with a workshop and a seminar in the scope of a Blended Intensive Program from the Erasmus mobility program. \nThe fourth lecture scheduled for the 4th of December 2024 has been created in cooperation with the  Museum Giersch der Goethe-Universität (MGGU). It  invites artist Zilla Leutenegger\, who is contributing for the current exhibition  OUR HOUSE at the MGGU. \nSKW Building\, Room B\, Goethe University Frankfurt & via Zoom \nProgram \n23.10.24 „Housing and co-participatory design: the Collegium Academicum IBA Heidelberg“ by Hans Drexler [DGJ Architektur | University Siegen] \n06.11.24 „Dwelling With Class – Building Structures of Classism in Architecture“ by Rosanna Umbach [University of Bremen | TU Wien] \n13.11.24 „Urban Habitats and Multispecies World- Building“ by Daniela Brasil\, [Graz Museum] \n04.12.24 „Visiting Myself“ by Zilla Leutenegger from Zurich. SUMMARY:AO-Ringvorlesung: Designed Orders / Othering displayed: Racialized Spacemaking of German Exhibitions
DESCRIPTION:2. Februar 2023\, 18 Uhr\nGoethe University Frankfurt\, Campus Westend\, HZ 8 \nREGINE HESS\nOthering displayed: Racialized Spacemaking of German Exhibitions (EN) \nThe architectural design process aims to create new orders and at the same time is\, itself\, structured by its practical\, technical\, social\, and legal frameworks. The lecture series in the 2022/2023 summer and winter semester traces this double relation. Each design imagines the future and represents an attempt to create a new spatial – and thus always social – order. This projective access to the unknown and unthought places planning conventions\, construction standards\, legal requirements and established architectural\, urbanistic and social ideas in relation to each other rethinks them\, and makes them dynamic. The lecture series asks how design structures the interaction of these different and heterogeneous factors and what roles the conditions\, norms\, and tools of design play.
